Up North

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Hej.

Hope you´ve had a good christmas! Right now I´m sitting in a house outside of Boden. Boden is one of the most northern cities in Sweden and this time of year, the sun is barely visible a few hours a day. If you follow this longitude around earth you will find sunny resorts;-) such as Maniitsooq (Greenland), Fairbanks (Alaska), Vopnafjördur (Iceland) to name a few… If you travel for an hour further up north by car you will cross the arctic circle were the sun never really rises above the horizon this time of the year. Do I have to mention that it’s pretty cold and snowy?

The 29th of october

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

…was a comprehensive day. First of all I reached the respectable age of 25! Kristin had taken a day of to celebrate me, which she managed to do very well indeed. After we had eaten breakfast while I was speaking in the phone I heard some kind of singing outside. I went to the window to see what it was, and this was what I saw…

… a ceremonious male-voice choir consisted of our dutch friends in LPG (who had arrived to Sweden the same morning with their manager Ilana) together with Markus, Joel W and Martin where singing the lovely tunes of a birthday song. I felt like some kind of royalty…

Later on at night when we were in Halmstad to play at a Halloween party we had to deal with several sound problems. It appeard that the PA system was useless, so instead of doing the regular sound check me, Erik and the sound engineer Gustav (who decided to do the sound for us for free just a couple of hours earlier as it had turned out that the other guy who was in charge of everything had got ill. It was a real dues ex machine…) went to Falkenberg, a city close by, to borrow a PA from Gustav’s music store. In the meantime Markus and Joel W helped LPG doing a line check. We came back in time, but we didn’t manage to do any sound check. Instead Gustav did a “sound check” in our first songs. Anyway, we had a really good time on stage, one of my personal favorites, even if it felt pretty weird to play before a bunch of whitches, vampires, and clowns dancing crazily on the dance floor…

It took more time than usual to get home after the gig as we had to go back with the PA system to Falkenberg. It felt pretty strange to get home when Kristin was eating breakfast…

Fry up

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

As I didn’t have time to write a comment after the fry up last day I thought I could just share a photo from the delicious breakfast. Unfortunately you can’t see much of the plates on the picture, but I think the face expressions speaks for themselves… After having tried it yesterday I actually ordered it again today on the ferry…

On our way home to Sweden!

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

This morning we got up after 2,5 hours of sleep in order to be on time for the ferry in Harwich. The gig last night was a nice one, although Erik’s amp broke down during the sound check so we had to do the gig with only one electric guitar. We played together with the nice band Eider Coats from London- skilled musicians and nice people too! There were suppose to be more bands playing, but they didn’t show up. Weird…

Coffee at Jeroen and Esthers place

Right now we are sitting in Jeroen and Esthers Livingroom in Ridderkerk, Holland. The ferry ride to Hoek van Holland was pleasant. We had some nice fry up breakfast again!

I’m too tired to write anything more now. Good night!

“fry up”

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

In a couple of minutes we will sit around the table enjoying the typical English “fry up”, as Joakim and Sussie thought we can’t go back to Sweden without having tried this delicate breakfast. I will soon give my opinion to you. Now it’s time for me to fill my belly…

Cello Guitar

Today (read yesterday, time for the blog post is 00:10 AM) we have had a day off. When there’s nothing to do you can always grab the cello and the guitar and create some music. Markus and I decided to do this and if you would like to see it happened just watch the video above.

As we’ve told you before we’re staying with Joakim and Susanne (LEON, record label) in the beautiful countryside of Poundon! We are going to be here until saturday this week. Then we will head back home to Sweden. I think that’s all for now, got to get some sleep… Tomorrow (read today..) we will do a pre-recording of two acoustic songs at BBC Oxford Radio! After that we will play at the pub “The Prince of Wales” in Steeple Claydon! Just like the other lads in the alibi family I have high hopes about all of this! …

ok, let’s try to end this post in a second try. Good night!

While waiting for some lasagna

Monday, October 13th, 2008

While writing this, Markus and Joel W are making wonders in the kitchen at Joakim and Susie’s (LEON) place where we are staying for the rest of our time in England.

Our first days in England have resulted in us making some really good new friends. In Kettering, where we played our first gig in England, we met the passionated and warm hearted Jamie and Kerry, who invited us and opened their house for us during our stay there. At their place we also met the very sympatic Peter Nevland who did “spoken word” in between the bands.

Over and out for dinner!

Last day in the Netherlands

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Last night we performed for the last time in the netherlands together with LPG. Anderson, who we will be the opening up for later this evening at Waterfront, also played with us. We managed to get last night’s performance at speakers on video and we will hopefully be able to put some clips up here in a few days, since we are not able to transfer the film to a computer here in Ridderkerk.

After the gig tonight we will drive all the way to Kettering, England during the night since we’re doing an instore gig at sonic boom tomorrow and a gig at Key Escape club later that evening. Puh, it will be a tough journey, luckely we are equipped with energy drinks.

Forresten…

Ni i sverige far gora er redo for en harlig alibi tom/LPG-invasion i slutet av manaden!

29 okt Halmstad, 31 okt Goteborg (alla aldrar) och 1 nov Goteborg. Mer info finns pa var giglista!

(there is no need to translate the sentences above into english so I will not do that. Simple as that.)

You will probably not hear from us tomorrow, but in the meantime you can always take a look at this great review from swedish website joyzine.se of our debut album. If you know how to read Swedish of course.

Have a nice friday evening!

A morning with some exercise

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Joel is taking the lead in Golf
Martin and Joel playing Wii
Alright, a new day with some wonderful weather has risen and while some of the guys positioned themselves again with their noses in the books, Joel W and Martin had some time of fun through exploring the world of Nintendo Wii. Mostly Joel W kicked butt, but he had the courtesy of letting Martin win the tennis (which Martin by the way consider beeing the only important game to win…) In some hour we wil be heading for the beautiful city of Delft where some strolling and perhaps an ice cream are waiting:-)

Take care! //Joel W and Martin

Art on coasters

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Coasters can be used in many ways… After the gig in Middelburg last Saturday we recieved a nice artwork on a coaster from a girl in the audience. After yesterday’s gig in Haarlem we received another coaster from two in the audience.

Today we have had a day off in Ridderkerk where we’re staying at a very nice family’s place. Some of us have tried to do some studies during the day with different results… I have been composing bass lines for children’s songs at a synth wearing earphones so that I didn’t disturb the others doing schoolwork in the same room. I just couldn’t resist plugging off the earphones every ones in a while to play some really annoying 80s/90s hit-melodies for my frustrated band fellers who already had a hard time trying to focus on the studies while being on tour…

Now I’m going to bed after a really nice dinner at our friends Jeroen (from Anderson) and Ester’s place. Tomorrow we’re going to Delft where we’re going to play together with LPG and Anderson at “Speakers”. See you there? Good night und so weiter…
